Kids delight in the pomp and circumstance of historic Citadel Military College's Friday Dress Parades when college is in session. A formal military showing with rifles, swords and patriotic band music, the parades usually take place in the afternoon. It is most inspiring to see and to visit the Citadel Museum, chronicling the lives of many of the Military Academy's notable graduates. |

#3 - Charleston's Irvin House Vineyards
A daytrip to Irvin House Vineyards — on the sea island of Wadmalaw, 25 minutes from downtown Charleston and close to Kiawah and Seabrook Islands — is pure fun. Free tours are offered on Saturdays at 2:00 pm every month except January. Sweet, fruity muscadine grapes are grown, and five varieties of wine are bottled on this 48-acre winery. #4 - Farmer's Market in Charleston's Marion Square
Charleston's Farmer's Market is open on Saturdays 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., April through December. Located on Marion Square in the heart of downtown Charleston at the corner of King and Calhoun Streets, it is a feast for the senses. Browse colorful fresh produce, flowers and herbs while listening to live entertainment. Often, local artisans peddle their crafts and vendors offer free food samples. |

Strolling Charleston's Waterfront Park is picturesque. The hospitality symbol of Charleston — the pineapple — welcomes you in the form of a beautiful fountain. Saunter along the bluestone harborfront pathways on a sizzling summer day and you will see children cooling off in another fountain designed for frolicking.
